The hen mola came first here. Then came the 'Hen and Chicks' patchwork pattern which morphed into Paul Klee's arrow symbols when I started making fabric decisions. Amazingly I discovered the British textile print based on Klee's work in my stash and after that the quilting design required no decisions - my needle just "took a walk" as Klee often said about his pencil. However, since hand quilting is permission for my brain to also wander at will, I couldn't help but remember the 20 years my parents were KFC franchisees and what chickens had meant to my family. The upper left blue quadrant is a needled sketch of the original KFC image building. |
